The 5th International Conference on Quality and Safety in Healthcare (2024 IMQSC) and China Conference on Medical Technology (2024 CMTC) will be held on September 27-29, 2024 in Chengdu, China.

The theme of the conference is "Continuously improving medical quality capabilities, promoting the comprehensive establishment of a high-quality and efficient medical and health service system with Chinese Characteristics, and enhancing the international medical quality and safety management exchange". The conference was hosted by the National Institute of Hospital Administration (NIHA) of the National Health Commission (NHC), with the assistance and support of many health service institutions and hospitals in Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangdong, Shandong, Xiamen, etc. Aurora Health Intelligence (AHI) also participates in this event as a major organization that links up the international exchange platform.

The main contents of this conference include:

(1) medical quality and safety management under the new era, mainly involving the interpretation and effectiveness sharing of national policies on medical quality and safety management, the sharing of the experience in nosocomial infection prevention and control, domestic and foreign experience in nursing quality and safety, experience in real-world research and data quality control, medical quality and safety and patient relationship, the construction of hospital informatization to help improving the medical quality and safety, with standardized accreditation as well.

(2) Medical quality and safety and hospital operation management, including the construction of national/provincial/regional medical centers, interpretation and experience sharing of hospital evaluation policies, discussion on hospital management under the reform of medical insurance payment, close urban medical groups, medical community construction and primary medical service capacity and quality improvement, lean management empowers the improvement of medical service quality, performance "national examination" and overall improvement of medical quality.

(3) Discipline construction and high-quality development, including medical management to promote the high-quality development of hospitals, the construction and development of hospital infectious diseases, the construction and high-quality development of pediatrics in the new era, the construction and quality control of intensive care medical disciplines, the quality and safety of outpatient medical care, the construction of medical talent teams and the exploration of new models of medical diagnosis and treatment, etc.

(4) The innovation and development of medical technology, including the management of medical devices and the construction of medical engineering departments, the development and quality and safety management of medical laboratory, pathology and other disciplines, the clinical application and demand assessment of new medical imaging technologies, the status quo and development trend of minimally invasive treatment technology, the clinical application and risk prevention of ablation treatment technology, the modern clinical laboratory technology and application, the cognition and practice of medical technology verification, and the exploration of predictive maintenance mode based on medical equipment intelligent services. The conference consists in rich contents, cutting-edge and novel topics, covering a wide range of in-depth topics, from hospital management, clinical technology, service innovation, medical quality to high-quality medical professional training, discipline construction, diagnostic technology, patient safety and all-dimensional exchanges and learning, which can be recognized as a pragmatic boutique conference in the industry.

The conference was attended by relevant leaders from the health and medical insurance administrative departments of various provinces and cities in China, as well as hospital-level leaders of medical institutions at all levels, management backbones, experts and scholars engaged in medical quality and safety, grade hospital evaluation, hospital operation, performance appraisal, medical affairs, insurance, infection control, nursing, medical devices, information and related clinical departments. In addition, the conference also included experts from world-class hospitals such as United States and Germany, as well as well-known scholars from Taiwan, Hong Kong and other places. Sharing the latest topics and progress of medical quality and safety, building and cultivating high-quality medical service institutions and practitioners, and consolidating the cornerstone of medical safety and patient safety, this conference will present more solid and cutting-edge concepts and practices.

Looking back on history, in 2018, the first International Conference on Medical Quality and Safety was held in Zhuhai, and many hospital administrators from hospital from UPenn, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Texas Hospital Association and many hospitals in China participated in the conference and received strong and positive feedback. Continually to become an annual international conference. In 2019, the second International Medical Quality and Safety Conference was held in Xiamen, with nearly 2,000 participants from the National Health Commission and leaders of hundreds of medical institutions in China, and managers from Johns Hopkins, Mount Sinai, Harvard University Hospital and Einstein College of Medicine in United States participated in sharing and exchanges the experiences, which achieved greater impact and received more attention and support from international and domestic medical colleagues.

This year, as international collaboration and exchange continue to open up and expand, hosting an offline quality and safety conference aligns more closely with the needs of modern hospital development. Through in-depth exchanges and experience sharing among international and domestic peers, this annual event is playing an increasingly important and positive role.

Among the visiting international experts this year is Dr. Emad Eskandar, a leading neurosurgeon from Montefiore-Einstein Medical Center in New York. He is internationally recognized as a top expert in epilepsy and movement disorders, having successfully performed the world’s first surgery to separate conjoined twins with cranial fusion. He will share his management experience regarding the quality and safety of neurosurgical patients—an insightful session not to be missed.

Another clinical expert is Dr. Matthew Bartels, Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. As the recipient of the “Humanitarian Care Citizen - Rehabilitation Medicine Award” from the United Nations International Community of Care Council (ICCC), Dr. Bartels has over 30 years of innovative research and experience in rehabilitation medicine. His contributions have opened a new era for medical rehabilitation and global telehealth. Montefiore Medical Center is placing significant emphasis on and support for this conference, sending Dr. Irene Gebrael, Senior Vice President, to attend despite the busy operations of the hospital. A top expert in Lean-Six Sigma, she oversees the International Affairs Department, physician training, and patient consultation and medical services. Under her leadership, the hospital has generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue annually. Dr. Gebrael will share Montefiore-Einstein Medical Group’s successful experiences regarding the critical role of high-quality medical personnel training in healthcare quality and safety. Earlier this year, the group received the largest single donation in the history of international medical education—$1 billion—entirely for future medical talent development.
